Torch at home studio in rented apartment, has anyone done this and encountered problems with their landlord

I have been working from home for a while now, set up to do both silversmithing and lampworking. I have a propane tank outside which I run inside to do my work. My landlord has informed me that he is uncomfortable with this and that we need to look into fire coding, laws, etc...I may be shut down but was wondering if anyone has encountered this and had any success in alleviating concerns? So far I have a note into the Office of the Fire Marshall but any insight would be greatly appreciated.

2010 Blacksmithing Course Schedule Now Posted

I have had many inquiries for the new schedule for blacksmithing courses offered at my shop in Bruce County, Ontario. I have finally have had a chance to put the new schedule up and it can be found on the Blacksmith Classes page of my website.

The Metal Arts Guild

is undertaking a strategic planning process.  Over the past few years our dedicated volunteers have worked hard to bring you:

  • an interactive website for displaying members' portfolios, sharing information and networking
  • National juried exhibitions
  • Monthly email newsletter about upcoming events
  • Annual events at Nuit Blanche
  • Technical workshops and makers' symposium
  • MAGazine in full colour

We will be setting goals for the next three to five years.  While the Board of Directors will ultimately have to decide where to focus our resources, hearing the many voices of our membership is vital.  Please give us your perspective and join the

discussion

  1. What do you like best about the Metal Arts Guild?
  2. How does MAG help you personally?
  3. How can you see yourself contributing to MAG's future success?

MAG-2067 Crafting the Future

The Crafting the Future Exhibition can now be viewed exclusively in the International Departures Lounge of Toronto's Pearson International Airport until March of 2010

Links: A Collective Knowledge

The graduating students from ACAD are developing a book to chronical the explorations made by their year. To learn about the project and see more images visit linksacollectiveknowledge.blogspot.com

Our book, Links: A Collective Knowledge, is a compilation of works created by an intimate group of sixteen emerging Canadian artists. Links documents the diverse explorations and directions that the group members pursue. The group practices ongoing communication and critique, facilitating their creative evolution. This project solidifies the bonds of community which have developed between them. The book contains essays by Dr. Jennifer Salahub and Mireille Perron creating an important addition to the historical discussion of contemporary craft. Copies of this book will be distributed to galleries, libraries and institutions across North America.
