Personal Description

Alastair Crombie is a designer goldsmith specializing in custom designed fine jewellery. His creative background combined with his abilities in clever interpretation and critical evaluation allow him to create unique pieces of the highest quality. Though jewellery is often viewed on a surface level, Alastair enjoys investigating the more complex and peculiar depths of conceptual form. Inspired by organic structures, science, toys and kinetic art, he creates sculptural one off pieces alongside playful and wearable production jewellery.

Field trip to the show?

Hey everyone,

I haven't had a chance to see the exhibit fully set up and it's closing this week! So i thought i'd organize a last minute field trip, how does this Wednesday the 18th at 2:30pm sound? We meet up at the gallery, stumble around, go for a drink or four, then stumble home for dinner. I have to work at 5:00pm so i'll have to leave by 4:30. Hope to see you there.

-cheers, alastair

crazy metal machines

Hey everyone,

A friend of mine mentioned that some work from Maywa Denki is showing at the Japan Foundation Toronto. I heard about this collective group of artists/engineers/musicians/designers/experimentalists a while ago from a Metalsmith article. Their videos on You Tube are wild and their art is quite amusing. There is a special saturday opening THIS WEEKEND! I'm going to check it out cause design in japan is awesome… Continue

Alastair, one more thing if you are interested in a soundtrack for the opening you might look into the later music of Raymond Scott on Youtube.

Hi Alastair thanks for your kind words regarding my submission. I first learned about Sheldrake's theories in a 1993 documentary by Wim Kayzer called "A Glorious Accident", still well worth watching as it featured many other luminaries of the time. I'm sorry a theremin performance will not be possible, it requires about 6ft. of open space in every direction around it, not very conducive to a cramped gallery opening, I'm quite out of practice and frankly a shy performer and the practice amp I've been borrowing has left for parts unknown. I do plan to be at the opening and would be happy to meet you, please introduce yourself. Best Regards Ken
